HELPING SUPPORT A SCHOOL FOR MAYAN CHILDREN IN TULUM WITH LOCAL NGO
Los Amigos De La Esquina A.C (LADLE) is a beautiful community project that empowers and improves the quality of local children right here in Tulum town.
LOS AMIGOS DE LA ESQUINA (LADLE)
What started as a donation of a plot of land by a couple of amazing guys, Jaime Kohen and Francisco Rocha, has now become an important area for children to learn, grow, play. The name “Los Amigos de la Esquina” (LADLE) means “The Friends from the Corner” and officially became an NGO August 2017 with the wonderful energy and experience of Claudia, Vicky and Selene. In 2021 the school was built with donations from local businesses, international donations and a generous donation from Mom I’m Fine. With students ranging in age from 5 - 12 years of age, LADLE’s mission is to empower and improve the quality of life of children in Tulum, encouraging inclusion, sociocultural exchange, raising of consciousness, cognitive and socio-emotional development.
TULUM EMERGENCY FOOD PACKAGES FUNDRAISER
DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC
During this time hundreds of families in need were supported through this initiative, working closely also with local NGOs who helped to create more sustainable ways of surviving in lieu of tourism which was the main source of income. Some of the initiatives include creating community gardens where they grow vegetables and fruits, a composting initiative which collects and also encourages the town to compost, to building small community centres where the children are being taught English, maths, dance, to yoga, painting and music.
It was incredible to see Tulum's community join together to help those in need. We were overwhelmed the community spirit and and all those who were part of their own and our Tulum Food Parcels Fundraiser:
